Attestation

The formal act of witnessing the signing of a document and then signing it oneself to confirm its authenticity and the proper execution by the signatory. This process provides evidence that the document was signed by the person named and in the presence of the witness. Wills and deeds frequently require attestation by multiple witnesses.
