Boy Scouts of America v. Dale (2000)

A United States Supreme Court case that held that the Boy Scouts of America had a constitutional right to bar homosexuals from serving as troop leaders. The Court ruled that applying New Jersey's public accommodations law to force the organization to accept a gay scoutmaster would violate its First Amendment right of expressive association. This decision affirmed the right of private organizations to set their own membership standards.
