The present value of a future stream of income or benefits, calculated by discounting those future amounts back to a current lump sum. This valuation method is frequently applied to assets that generate consistent revenue over time, such as rental properties or annuities. The discount rate used in the calculation reflects the risk associated with the income stream and the prevailing interest rates.
