An abbreviation for common interest development, a residential community in which individually owned lots or units come with shared ownership or use of common areas, managed by an owners' association under recorded covenants, conditions and restrictions. Condominiums, planned unit developments, community apartment projects and stock cooperatives all qualify. California regulates them under the Davis-Stirling Common Interest Development Act.
