Circuit split

A disagreement among different federal circuit courts of appeals on the interpretation of a federal law or constitutional provision. When circuits issue conflicting rulings on the same legal question, it creates inconsistent application of the law across the country. The existence of a circuit split is a common reason for the U.S. Supreme Court to grant certiorari and resolve the conflict.
