Split custody

A child custody arrangement where one parent is granted sole physical custody of some children, and the other parent is granted sole physical custody of the remaining children. This differs from joint custody, where both parents share custody of all children. Courts typically order split custody only in specific circumstances, such as when older children express a strong preference to live with a particular parent.
