Collective knowledge
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001057
A legal principle that imputes the combined knowledge of multiple individuals within an organization, such as a corporation or government agency, to the organization as a whole. Under this doctrine, a company is considered to know a fact if any of its agents or employees know it, even if that information was not communicated to the decision-makers. This concept is frequently applied in cases involving corporate liability, particularly in determining probable cause for an arrest by a police department.
