Respondeat superior

A legal doctrine, meaning "let the master answer," which holds an employer or principal legally responsible for the wrongful acts of an employee or agent committed within the scope of their employment. This principle applies even if the employer did not directly authorize or know of the specific act. It is a form of vicarious liability, often applied in tort law.
