Vicarious liability

A legal doctrine that holds one party responsible for the wrongful acts of another, even if the first party did not directly commit the act. This liability arises from a special relationship between the parties, such as employer-employee or principal-agent. Respondeat superior is a common application of vicarious liability in employment law.
