Scope of employment

The range of activities an employee performs within the course of their job for which an employer may be held legally responsible. Actions fall within this scope if they are of the kind the employee is employed to perform, occur substantially within authorized time and space limits, and are actuated, at least in part, by a purpose to serve the employer. This concept is central to the doctrine of respondeat superior.
