Common law marriage

A legally recognized marriage between two individuals who have not undergone a formal ceremony but have demonstrated their intent to be married and hold themselves out to the public as spouses. This type of marriage is recognized in a limited number of jurisdictions. Requirements typically include cohabitation and mutual agreement to be married.
