Bigamy

The criminal offense of knowingly entering into a marriage ceremony with someone while still being legally married to another living person. A conviction requires proof that a prior, valid marriage existed and had not been legally dissolved through divorce, annulment, or the death of the spouse at the time the subsequent marriage was contracted. The second purported marriage is considered void ab initio, meaning it was invalid from its inception.
