Nullity

A legal act, proceeding, or instrument that is considered to have no legal force or effect from its inception, as if it never existed. This occurs when there is a fundamental defect that renders the act void rather than merely voidable. A marriage entered into without proper legal capacity, for instance, may be declared a nullity.
