Disenfranchisement

The revocation of a right or privilege, most commonly the right to vote, from an individual or group. This can occur through legal means, such as felony convictions, or through discriminatory practices. Historical examples include poll taxes and literacy tests that prevented certain populations from exercising their suffrage.
