Disposable income

  1. The amount of money that an individual or household has left for spending and saving after income taxes and other mandatory deductions have been paid. This figure is often used in legal contexts, such as bankruptcy proceedings or child support calculations, to determine a person's ability to pay. It represents the funds available for discretionary use.

  2. Income not reasonably necessary for the maintenance or support of the debtor or dependents and certain other limited purposes.
