Support trust

A type of trust established to provide for the maintenance, education, or medical care of a beneficiary. The trustee has discretion over the distribution of income and principal, but only for the specific support needs outlined in the trust instrument. Creditors of the beneficiary cannot compel distributions from a support trust, as the beneficiary does not have an absolute right to the funds.
