Spendthrift trust

A trust established to protect a beneficiary's interest from creditors and from the beneficiary's own improvidence. The beneficiary cannot assign their interest in the trust, and creditors cannot reach the trust assets until they are distributed to the beneficiary. These trusts are recognized in most U.S. states, though specific rules vary by jurisdiction.
