Dispute resolution

The process of settling conflicts between parties, either through or as an alternative to traditional court litigation. Methods include negotiation, where parties communicate directly; mediation, which uses a neutral third party to facilitate an agreement; and arbitration, where a neutral arbitrator hears evidence and makes a binding decision. Unlike litigation, which is public, many alternative dispute resolution proceedings, such as mediation, are confidential.
