Alternative Dispute Resolution, a range of processes used to resolve disputes outside of traditional court litigation. Common forms include mediation, where a neutral third party facilitates a settlement, and arbitration, where a neutral third party hears evidence and makes a binding decision. ADR methods are often faster, less expensive, and more flexible than court proceedings, and are frequently encouraged by courts.
