Distributed ledger technology

A digital system for recording transactions in which the records are stored in multiple places at the same time, also known as distributed ledger technology (DLT). Unlike a traditional centralized database, the ledger is maintained and validated by a consensus of participants across the network. This architecture forms the basis for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and applications involving smart contracts.
