A distributed digital ledger that records transactions in a secure and immutable manner across a network of computers. Each block in the chain contains a number of transactions, and every time a new transaction occurs, a record of it is added to every participant's ledger. This decentralized structure creates a permanent and transparent record-keeping system, which is the foundational technology for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
