General ledger

The main accounting record of a business, containing all the accounts necessary to prepare financial statements. It summarizes all transactions from the general journal, categorized by account type, such as assets, liabilities, equity, revenues, and expenses. The balances in the general ledger accounts are used to create the trial balance and ultimately the financial statements.
