Chart of accounts

A structured listing of all financial accounts in an organization's general ledger, used to organize transactions and prepare financial statements. Each account is assigned a unique number and name, and is classified by type, such as asset, liability, equity, revenue, or expense. This standardized framework provides the necessary data for financial reporting, auditing, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
