Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001740
A U.S. military policy, in force from 1994 until September 20, 2011, under which gay, lesbian and bisexual people could serve only if they did not disclose their sexual orientation, while commanders were barred from asking about it. Congress voted to repeal it in December 2010, and the repeal took effect after the military certified its readiness in 2011. Before it, military rules excluded homosexual service members outright.
