Edmunds Anti-Polygamy Act of 1882

A United States federal law that criminalized polygamy, unlawful cohabitation, and bigamy, and disenfranchised polygamists. This act was part of a broader effort by the federal government to suppress the practice of polygamy, particularly among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It imposed fines and imprisonment for violations and barred polygamists from holding public office or serving on juries.
