Estoppel in pais

A legal doctrine that prevents a person from denying a fact or claim when their conduct, words, or silence have induced another to act to their detriment. This form of estoppel, also known as equitable estoppel, arises from a party's representations or actions outside of a formal record or deed. It requires a material misrepresentation or concealment, reliance by another party, and resulting injury.
