Federal Land Policy and Management Act

A United States federal law, enacted in 1976, that governs the administration of public lands by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The act establishes a policy of retaining most public lands in federal ownership and managing them for multiple uses and sustained yield. This statute, often abbreviated as FLPMA, repealed many previous land laws and provides the primary legal framework for the BLM's management of over 245 million acres of public land.
