Tidelands

Land that is covered by water during high tide and exposed during low tide, situated between the mean high-water and mean low-water marks. The ownership and public access rights to these lands are governed by the public trust doctrine. This doctrine holds that the state holds these lands in trust for the public for uses such as navigation, fishing, and recreation.
