Felony

  1. A serious criminal offense punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death. Felonies are distinguished from misdemeanors, which are less serious crimes carrying shorter sentences or fines. Examples include murder, robbery, and arson, with specific classifications and penalties varying by jurisdiction and statute.
