Felon

An individual who has been convicted of a felony, which is a serious crime. Felonies are distinguished from misdemeanors by the severity of the potential punishment, which includes imprisonment for more than one year in a state or federal penitentiary. A felony conviction results in the loss of certain civil rights, such as the right to vote, hold public office, or possess a firearm, with restoration of these rights varying by jurisdiction.
