A registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by a public company to register securities offered to its employees under an employee benefit plan. This form is used for stock options, purchase plans, and other equity-based compensation. Unlike other registration statements, Form S-8 becomes effective immediately upon filing with the SEC and provides less detailed information about the company's business.
