The intangible asset of a business representing its reputation, customer loyalty, brand recognition, and other non-physical factors that contribute to its value beyond its tangible assets. It is often recognized in accounting when one company acquires another for a price exceeding the fair value of its identifiable net assets. Goodwill is subject to impairment testing under accounting standards like GAAP and IFRS.
