A resource with economic value that an individual, corporation, or country owns or controls with the expectation that it will provide a future benefit. Assets are recorded on a balance sheet and can be classified as current, fixed, financial, or intangible. Examples include real estate, intellectual property, and cash, all subject to valuation methods such as fair market value.
