Hung jury

A jury that cannot reach a unanimous verdict after extensive deliberation, resulting in a mistrial. When a jury is hung, the judge declares a mistrial, and the prosecution must decide whether to retry the case with a new jury or dismiss the charges. This outcome prevents a conviction or acquittal in the current proceeding.
