Deadlocked jury

A jury in a criminal or civil trial that is unable to reach the required level of unanimity or consensus to render a verdict after extended deliberation. When a judge determines that the jury is hopelessly deadlocked, a mistrial is declared. Following a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury, the prosecution may choose to retry the case with a new jury, enter into a plea bargain, or dismiss the charges.
