International Emergency Economic Powers Act

A United States federal law granting the President authority to manage economic transactions in response to an unusual and extraordinary threat to the nation. After declaring a national emergency, the President can use powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to block transactions and freeze assets to deal with the threat. This authority has been used to impose sanctions on foreign countries, organizations, and individuals.
