The fair market value of private property taken for public use under the power of eminent domain, as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This amount includes not only the property's value but also any damages incurred by the owner due to the taking. It aims to place the owner in the same financial position as before the taking.
