Lateral support

The right of a landowner to have their property supported by the adjacent land. This right prevents a neighbor from excavating or altering their land in a way that causes the first landowner's property to subside or collapse. It is a common law right that protects the natural state of the land, not structures built upon it unless specified by statute.
