Latent defect

A flaw or imperfection in an item or property that is not readily apparent upon reasonable inspection but exists at the time of sale or transfer. This type of defect is hidden and would not be discovered by an ordinary examination. Sellers may be held liable for latent defects if they knew about them and failed to disclose them, particularly in real estate transactions.
