Law French

A specialized dialect of Old French that was used in England for legal purposes from the Norman Conquest until the 17th century. It served as the language of pleadings, statutes, and judicial opinions, influencing much of modern English legal terminology. Although no longer spoken, many Law French terms remain embedded in common legal parlance.
