Law Latin

A specialized form of Latin used in legal documents and proceedings, particularly in England and other common law jurisdictions, from the Middle Ages until the 18th century. It incorporated English and French legal terms and grammatical structures, differing from classical Latin. Many Latin maxims and phrases from this period are still used in legal discourse today.
