Legal owner

The individual or entity recognized by law as having title to property, even if another party holds beneficial or equitable ownership. The legal owner has the right to transfer or encumber the property. This distinction is particularly relevant in trust arrangements, where a trustee is the legal owner and the beneficiary is the equitable owner.
