Life estate pur autre vie

An interest in real property that grants the holder the right to possess and use the property for the duration of another person's life, rather than their own. The term 'pur autre vie' means 'for the life of another.' This estate terminates upon the death of the designated measuring life, at which point the property reverts or passes to a remainderman.
