Matter of record
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003187
A fact, event, or proceeding that has been officially documented in the files of a court or public office, such as a judgment, a recorded deed, or a birth certificate. The record itself is the best evidence of what it contains, and courts can take judicial notice that it exists. The contents are not conclusive on every point, because a party can still contest the accuracy of what a recorded document states.
