McConnell v. Federal Election Commission (2003)

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003194

A landmark Supreme Court case that largely upheld the constitutionality of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, also known as the McCain-Feingold Act. The Court affirmed Congress's power to regulate campaign finance, particularly 'soft money' contributions to political parties. It found that the government's interest in preventing corruption and the appearance of corruption justified the restrictions on campaign spending.
