Mayhem

The common law offense of violently depriving another person of a member of their body, or disabling or disfiguring them, so as to render them less able to defend themselves in combat. Modern statutes often refer to this crime as malicious wounding or aggravated assault. The intent to maim or disfigure is a key element of the offense.
