Element

A distinct and necessary component or constituent part of a legal claim, offense, or defense that must be proven to establish its validity. Each element must be satisfied by evidence for a party to prevail in a legal action. For example, the elements of a contract typically include offer, acceptance, consideration, and mutual assent.
