Mirror image rule
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003253
A common law principle of contract formation stating that an acceptance of an offer must be an exact, unqualified assent to all the terms of the offer. If the acceptance introduces any new terms or conditions, it is considered a counteroffer rather than an acceptance, thereby rejecting the original offer. This rule is generally applied to contracts for services or real estate, but has been modified for sales of goods by the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC).
