Hors de combat

A legal status in international humanitarian law that applies to individuals who are out of the fight and therefore entitled to protection. This includes combatants who are wounded, sick, shipwrecked, or captured, as well as civilians. Persons hors de combat must not be attacked and are entitled to humane treatment under the Geneva Conventions.
