Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols

A body of international humanitarian law treaties built on the first Geneva convention of 1864. The four Geneva Conventions of 1949 protect wounded and sick soldiers, shipwrecked sailors, prisoners of war and civilians in armed conflict. Additional Protocols from 1977 cover victims of international and non-international armed conflicts, and a third protocol in 2005 added the Red Crystal emblem.
